One Park Drive is not just an exceptional piece of architecture but also the latest, if not the best representation of Canary Wharf as a new private estate and destination for London. Positioned right at the head of the dock, it joins in the mission of Canary Wharfs to bring some of London’s beat and culture East and set new standards of urban spaces in the city.

Working with top architects from all around the world, the Canary Wharf Group has successfully managed to turn the original Docklands into one of the new sought after locations in the city. Choosing Herzog & de Meuron, the architect group from Switzerland to work on the One Park Drive, they have together tried to define how living in the 21st century should look like. The answer? As humanly as possible.

With a circular form, surrounded by new streets, a promenade and waterways. The One Park Drive is a building consisting of 58 storeys that are divided into three categories. The Lofts, which is on the lower floors and contain some of the largest apartments with connections to the green spaces and waterfront. The Cluster forms the heart of the tower and offers more variety of apartments. And the Bay, which are on the upper floors set at the back of the tower with double height terraces and of course, offering the breathtaking views across London. The main idea around this, was to offer not just the highest quality and tranquility to the people living here, but also to set new standards as we can see from the way the building was designed reflecting the beauty of the interior equally into the exterior. The most obvious part being the terraces and balconies wrapping the building, as the architects have pointed out that most skyscrapers in big cities consist of either too small balconies, or a lack of privacy or appeal. And in our opinion, they have tackle that problem here not just effectively but appealingly as well.

But it is not just about how urban spaces should look like that we want to point out today, it is also about transformation and taking the leap.  The Docklands or Canary Wharf as it is called today has seen one of the biggest transformations, with skyscrapers not ships; now ruling the skyline. It is also talked about as one of the biggest social experiment of the UK in the 20th century, where changes was clearly on the way from back then but nobody new to what end or at what scale. It was an impossible dream, a bankrupted disaster turned into a thriving landmark of London and now famous financial district all in just 3 decades.
